In the summer of 1973, former Lebanese Army Captain Fouad Awad published The Road to Power [Al-Tariq ila al-Sulta]. The book was a testimony to the schemes of former army commander and president of the Lebanese Republic, Fouad Chehab, to fuel internal conflicts in preparation for seizing control of the country with a tyrannical military grip. Fifty years have passed since the first edition was published, and years have gone by since copies of the book ran out. The new edition has now been presented for readers interested in exploring that historical era, including the attempted coup of 1961-1962, in which the author himself participated. Kutub Publishing House has issued this edition in a new format while maintaining all aspects of the original text as recorded by Captain Awad after his release on December 21, 1970, from a nine-year prison sentence. Much has changed over the past five decades, with most of the characters in this book having passed away. However, the text left by Captain Awad remains a political, social, and historical document that retains its importance and relevance to this day.
