Baron D’Armagnac was a Lieutenant-Colonel and an aid of Soliman Pasha, the leading French officer who was an advisor of Ibrahim Pasha, and a commander in his army during the Syrian Campaign. He gives in this work an account of the reasons behind the failure of Ibrahim Pasha’s campaign. This work is a remittences of his role in the campaign since its beginning in 1834 until its failure in 1841. Baron D’Armagnac served in Beirut, Baalbeck, and stayed in Jounieh. He describes how the British through their agent Richard Wood worked with different Lebanese sects to start the revolt against the Egyptian and their ally Emir Bechir al-Chihabi. Baron D’Armanganc was evacuated from Jounieh after the British fleet bombardment, and this work is a testimony from an eye witness personality who participated in the dramatic events that led to the defeat of the Egyptian at Nezib, and the success of the revolts in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon in forcing the Egyptian to retreat.
