Giesen's Lebanon is a selection of Martin Giesen's paintings of the country where, since 1973, he has made his home. Born in Osnabruck, Germany, Giesen studied at the University of Heidelberg, where after a year a Heidelberg College, in Ohio, and another year as a research assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, he received his PHD in Art History. He is presently Assistant Professor of Architecture at the American University of Beirut, teaching mainly courses in the History of Art and Architecture. He has also managed the Beirut art gallery, Epreuve d'Artiste, from 1979 until 1983, and painted in various media, exhibiting his work in highly successful exhibitions in Lebanon and abroad.
